What is a Listening Season?
A Listening Season is a series of house meetings, conducted in a set period of time. House Meetings are led by trained leaders within each institution, who facilitate and take notes on stories, potential leaders, and issues.
Why are we proposing a Listening Season?
- Build relationships within our institutions – We may think that the pressures we feel are individual and private, they only affect us, that we cannot change them. House meetings build relationships and connections within our institutions which allow us to move from private pain to public action.
- Identify and develop new leaders for community action – we have no shortage of issues within our community and institutions, but we do have a lack of everyday leaders with the skills and willingness to be part of the solution. The issues and campaigns that the Spokane Alliance works on are driven by the pressures and energy within our member institutions. House meetings help identify what people care about both within their institution and in their broader lives.
- Build connection and the ability to act locally – Regardless of the outcome of the national elections, we know that there will be a need to build connections within and between our faith, labor, and civic institutions.
