Teach In About Emergency Protections for Tenants

The Spokane Alliance has teamed up with the Tenants Union of Spokane, the Spokane Low-Income Housing Coalition (SLIHC), and Greater Spokane Progress to work together for stronger protections for tenants during this crisis.

Tenants will be sharing their stories about how they have been affected by the pandemic and this growing economic crisis. We have identified a critical opportunity for action and we are calling on the City of Spokane, Spokane Valley, and the County to:

  1. Allow renters 12 months to pay back rent with no penalties or interest accrued after the moratorium is ended.
  2. Set up a rental assistance program.  The government entity (County, City and Valley) should pay 80% of what is owed directly to the landlord in agreement for just cause protections until 2021.
  3. Freeze rent increases on the tenant paid portion of rent during the moratorium and 12 months after it is lifted.   If this action is not taken rents will be raised to skirt the rules in place.

We will be sharing a call to action to contact your local elected officials and urge them to take the needed steps to protect renters during this time.

This event will take place via Zoom as a video conference with a call-in option. After RSVPing you will be sent the log-in details.
